🕵️‍♂️ How the CIA Uses AI

U.S. intelligence agencies are developing a model that can read the president's mood and instantly adjust the tone of the daily national security briefing, according to national security expert Chris Moran on the podcast The Artificial Human.

🔍 According to Moran, American intelligence has relied on computers since the Cold War. However, in the 21st century, AI enables agencies to process staggering volumes of data from human sources, satellites, and other sources. Palantir's AI tools, for instance, played a key role in tracking down terrorist leader Osama bin Laden.

Former CIA officer Peter Warmka also explained how AI is now used to craft fake digital identities for undercover agents: complete with convincing social media profiles, data trails, and planted records in official databases. These personas can be backdated, creating the illusion that they've existed for years.

🌎 On the flip side, the same algorithms are now used to analyze digital footprints, searching for potential recruitment targets even before any human contact is made.

Still, the CIA struggles to attract top IT talent — most prefer to join startups. That's why all new case officers now receive basic AI training.

"Our officers don't have to be technological gurus, but they're gonna have to have some, you know, basic understanding," Warmka says.
