🛑 Robots Will Not Carry Babies (Yet)

Last week, the media reported that in 2026, a Chinese company, Kaiva Robotics, plans to release 2026 an android purportedly capable of gestating a baby to term using an artificial womb.

The news was published in The Telegraph, The Daily Mail, The New York Post, and dozens of other agencies.

Journalists cited the only interview with the company's founder, Professor Zhang Qifeng of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. According to him, this project should address China's demographic challenges and cater to the needs of individuals who prefer not to marry but still wish to have children.

However, a few days later, Kaiva Robotics denied the CEO's words. A company representative explained that the startup was indeed creating service humanoid robots for hotels, schools, nursing homes, and other areas, but had never developed any "pregnancy robots."

In 2026, the company plans to release a new android, but it will not carry babies. The interview allegedly mentioned research in this area done abroad. But the news about the robot with an "artificial womb" had already spread.

🚼 Common sense suggests that we are still a long way from such technologies. Artificial embryo gestation (ectogenesis) is more theory than practice at this stage. Even less credible is the claim that robots struggling to balance a tray with a few cups would be capable of carrying babies only a year from now.
