💤 AI Will Take Care of Your Sleep
Eight Sleep, a startup that makes smart mattresses, has raised $100 million to develop sleep AI. Investors include Y Combinator and Ferrari Formula 1 star Charles Leclerc.
Since 2019, the company has been producing Pod smart mattresses, which have sensors that monitor sleep phases, heart rate, breathing, and movement.
The built-in AI adjusts temperature, wake-up time with a vibrating alarm, and even mattress tilt (to help with snoring), improving sleep quality, such as extending REM sleep. The mattress can also heat or cool each side of the bed separately , with temperatures ranging from 13°C and 43°C.
The next step is to develop a dedicated AI agent that will interpret biometric data and adjust the mattress in real time for better sleep — even before you close your eyes.
"This is the next frontier: AI that doesn’t just track you, it understands and adapts to you in real time," says Matteo Franceschetti, Eight Sleep co-founder and CEO.
The startup has now made over $500 million in Pod sales and gathered data from over a billion hours of sleep.
The latest model starts at $3,248, with an annual AI subscription from $299.
