🧑⚖️ Warner Bros. Discovery Sues Midjourney for Copyright
With its lawsuit against Midjourney, the company joins Disney and Universal in taking legal action.
Warner Bros. claims Midjourney generates "hundreds of millions of dollars" by creating images and videos featuring superheroes, cartoon, and movie characters, despite violating copyright law.
"It is hard to imagine copyright infringement that is any more willful than what Midjourney is doing here," the lawsuit states.
The corporation intends to ban reproduction of its characters and seek compensation of up to $150,000 for each violation.
Midjourney doesn't comment on the lawsuits, but the startup finds itself at a difficult crossroads. Restrictions and censorship will inevitably disappoint some users, while fighting Hollywood majors could bankrupt the company, which does not typically accept venture capital funding.
