🩺 Half of Younger Americans Use AI As a Doctor Alternative

Almost half of young people aged 16-34 in the US consult AI on health issues regularly, according to a recent survey by Censuswide.

❌ AI bots are becoming an alternative to real doctors, partly because of difficulties getting appointments at clinics, patients feeling their symptoms were not taken seriously by medical professionals, and misdiagnoses—all of these issues reported by more than a third of the survey participants.

❌ Almost half of respondents aged 18-29 discuss side effects of medications with bots. About a third use AI to prepare questions for doctor visits and to reduce anxiety while waiting for a diagnosis. One in four turns to AI to avoid medical costs, and 20% use chatbots for a second opinion.

❌ About 50% of respondents over the age of 35 completely trust AI with medical advice.

Still, doctors discourage patients from relying entirely on AI diagnoses—especially when a heart attack or stroke is suspected, when patients should seek immediate medical care.

"I really don't think the tech is at the point that it should be making autonomous decisions without a health care provider in the loop," says Adam Rodman, director of AI programs at Beth Israel Medical Center.
