🐾 AI Is Putting Animal Actors Out of Work

Dogs, cats, and even horses that worked on sets for decades are rapidly losing jobs. For studios, it's now easier and cheaper to create animals with AI. Humans linked to the craft are hurting too—trainers, wranglers, and other specialists.

Benay Karp, owner of an animal-actor agency, said demand for her "clients" has dropped to 40% of pre-pandemic levels.

"I don't think I've had a call for a woodpecker in probably three or four years, maybe five years. I have a flock of seagulls. I think I've only gotten one job for them in the last year, where they used to work all the time," Karp laments.

🐶 The days of Lassie and Beethoven are over. In James Gunn's new "Superman," the dog Krypto is a 100% digital model. To create it, the director simply scanned his own dog, Ozu ⤴️

However, animal rights activists from PETA are happy about these changes. In their opinion, AI helps to end the suffering of animals in the entertainment industry.

Animals on screen?

❤️ — It's ok
🤨 — It's awful
