🪐 America to Build a Lunar Base by 2030

The new U.S. space strategy, approved by Donald Trump, outlines plans to return astronauts to the Moon by 2028. According to the document, the first elements of a permanent outpost should appear on the lunar surface by 2030. The plan also includes building nuclear reactors on the Moon and in lunar orbit to generate power.

Back in 2019, Trump ordered NASA to send astronauts to the Moon "at any cost" by 2024. The Artemis mission's timeline was later moved to 2027—and now, once again, extended.

🧑‍🚀 Whether America will actually return to the Moon by 2028 largely depends on Elon Musk's SpaceX, which is developing a human landing system based on the Starship rocket. Still, the company is behind schedule, and in October, NASA considered bringing in other contractors—including Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin.

Meanwhile, Blue Origin is working on an alternative lander system that NASA plans to use alongside SpaceX's spacecraft after 2030. Musk, however, claims that SpaceX "is moving like lightning."

🇨🇳 China, on its part, aims to send its taikonauts to the Moon by 2030.
