🌜 Extra Sleep on Weekends Reduces Depression Risk

Young people who sleep in on weekends have a 41% lower risk of depression, according to research conducted at the University of Oregon.

Scientists analyzed sleep data from more than 1,000 young people aged 16-24. Study participants also reported on their mood and emotional state.
Those who made up for lost sleep on weekends reported symptoms of depression and low mood significantly less often.

Doctors recommend that teenagers sleep at least 8-10 hours a day. However, in the US, almost three-quarters of high school students do not get enough sleep during the work week, and at least one in five experience a depressive episode during the year.

👁 However, other studies show that sleeping too long on weekends could, on the contrary, increase the risk of depressive and anxiety disorders. Therefore, the optimal amount of catch-up sleep that is recommended on weekends for young adults is two hours.
