🎥 "Mercy": A New Sci-Fi Thriller About AI Justice
Timur Bekmambetov's thriller "Mercy" has premiered worldwide. According to the plot, by 2029, the AI system named Maddox—a prosecutor, lawyer, and judge all rolled into one—has helped to radically reduce crime in Los Angeles by gaining complete control over people's data.
The main character, a detective and one of the architects of AI justice, played by Chris Pratt (Peter Quill from Guardians of the Galaxy), is accused of murdering his wife. During the trial, he gains access to the case files: multiple camera recordings, phone calls, social media, cloud archives. He has 90 minutes to prove his innocence to the AI judge and avoid the immediate death penalty.
💰 Critics panned the film (it holds a 24% "freshness" score on Rotten Tomatoes). Still, regular viewers responded much more positively, giving it an 82% audience rating. In its opening weekend, the film topped the U.S. box office, dethroning Avatar: Fire and Flesh, which had led for five straight weeks.
