✏️ 10% of Teens Do Most of Their Homework with AI
Researchers at the Pew Research Center found this in a survey of nearly 1,500 American students ages 13–17.
For children from low-income families (less than $30,000 per year), at least 20% use AI for their homework, for middle-class families (up to $75,000 per year)—about 15%. And only 7% of teens living in higher-earning households say they do all or most of their schoolwork with AI chatbots’ help.
Only 6% of white students report doing all of their homework with AI assistance, compared with 16% of Hispanic students and 18% of African American students.
✅ Still, as many as 54% of students say they use AI for their studies—and the figure has doubled over the year.
✅ 59% of respondents say that using AI to cheat happens a lot at their school.
✅ Teenagers use chatbots most often to learn new topics and help with math. Approximately one in three turn to AI for help editing something they wrote.
💡 Boys are more likely than girls to believe that AI will have a positive impact on their lives—41% versus 30%. Overall, 31% of respondents believe that AI will have a positive impact on society within 20 years, while 26% believe it will have a negative impact.
How will AI change society in 20 years?
