💼 AI Will Replace At Least 500,000 Jobs in the U.S. This Year
This is the forecast by the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research based on a survey of 750 top executives at major companies. About 44% of firms plan plan on some AI-related job cuts.
We are talking about approximately 500,000 jobs, half of which are office positions. This is nine times higher than the estimated number of layoffs due to AI that occurred last year.
In economic terms, this represents only about 0.4% of jobs and no more than 2.4% of the number of employees laid off in the U.S. last year (21,2 млн people).
"It's not the doomsday job scenario that you might sometimes see in the headlines," confirms John Graham, a professor at Duke University and co-author of the study.
💡 AI-driven layoffs will primarily affect large companies, researchers predict. Still, in small businesses more job openings might emerge.
