💡 Glowing Plants Proposed as a Replacement for Streetlights
Chinese researchers from the biotech company Magicpen Bio have introduced plants that emit a soft, natural light in the dark. To achieve this, they transferred genes from fireflies and bioluminescent mushrooms into plant cells. Using this method, they've already managed to make more than 20 species glow, from orchids to sunflowers and chrysanthemums.
This isn't just a flashy biohack straight out of "Avatar"—it's a potentially new form of urban lighting that only requires water and fertilizer.
🔄 Such plants save energy, reduce emissions, and could light up cities at night, explains Magicpen Bio founder Li Renhan.
What do you think about these "living streetlights"?
❤️ — Awesome, I'd love to have them here!
🤔 — But what about winter...?
