Extraordinary herd of 500 buffalos gather in african wilderness

It is common to see a buffalo herd of anywhere between 50 and 500 individuals, and that is what makes this sighting so extraordinary.

Gathering in such large groups helps the animal dissuade predators like lions, leopards, hyenas, and African wild dogs. Although, older male buffalos often split off in smaller clusters or on their own. Meanwhile, calves spend up to a year and a half suckling and are completely dependent on their mothers during this time, thus tend to stay deep in the herd for safety. That said, lions also learn to specialise in catching buffalo - large quantities of meat is required to feed big prides and big prides are often able to catch buffalo more easily.
