Beaver’s tree around Chełm, Lublin, Poland.
Beavers chew halfway through a tree for a few reasons. One reason is to gather food. Beavers eat the soft layer of wood found just beneath the bark of trees, so they chew through the trunk to access this nutritious part of the tree. Another reason is for building their dams and lodges. By partially chewing through trees, beavers create the raw materials they need for constructing these structures. Additionally, chewing through trees helps to keep the beavers’ teeth from growing too long, as they continuously grow throughout their lives.
