A European badger cub twirls in the forest, puffing up its fur as it moves. Young badgers occasionally do this, though the reason remains unclear. Adults do not appear to exhibit the same behavior.

European badgers live in family groups called clans and are primarily nocturnal, spending their days underground in complex burrow systems called setts.
