📱 LinkedIn Co-founder Reid Hoffman: AI is Far More Useful Than Dangerous
LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman is one of the main investors in artificial intelligence. He is a partner at venture firm Greylock Partners, which has funded hundreds of startups. Hoffman is also one of the founding investors in OpenAI and sits on Microsoft's board of directors.
He is a techno-optimist who promotes the idea of Homo Teche—a "technological man." In 2023, Hoffman published the book "Impromptu: Amplifying Our Humanity with AI," which he co-wrote with ChatGPT. Last year, the entrepreneur made a video podcast with his AI twin!
In a recent column for The New York Times, Reid Hoffman explained why the benefits of AI technology prevail over the potential risks:
🔵 AI can create your "second self"— a digital copy of your personality by constantly recording and analyzing your actions. You will be able to revisit your past in vivid detail. But perfect recall isn't just a tool for remembering the past. It's also a compass that provides a clearer understanding of our goals.
🔵 While critics of Big Tech often emphasize how AI can empower corporations to use people's data for manipulation or discrimination, we can also deliberately design AI to help people get insights from their own data. The more you choose to share, the more this AI will be able to identify patterns in your life and surface insights that you may find useful. Over years of analysis, AI will help people better understand themselves and their decisions.
🔵 We're not in danger of an "Orwellian" future—today, we live in a world where individual identity is the coin of the realm. "Plumbers and presidents alike aspire to be social media influencers and cultural power flows increasingly to self-made operators, including the one-man podcasting empire Joe Rogan, the YouTube megastar MrBeast, and the human rights activist Malala Yousafzai," Hoffman explains.
