🖼️ Apple Is Developing AI-Powered Home Robots
According to rumors, Apple is working on a lineup of AI home robots. The main novelty will be a desktop companion robot, essentially an iPad mounted on a robotic arm, visually reminiscent of Pixar's iconic lamp.
AI will enable it to turn toward a person while they move around the room, track conversations, and even join them. Engineers have already tested a similar design ⤴️
Other upcoming devices reportedly include a smart speaker with a display, a dedicated AI tablet for smart home control, and a home security camera with facial recognition and control over lighting, devices, and multimedia.
All gadgets will run on a new OS, codenamed Charismatic, designed for use by multiple people at once.
Siri, redesigned, will serve as the "brain" of these devices. The next version of the long-struggling assistant is being built on LLMs, but the system core is not yet complete. Apple is pursuing two parallel tracks: one team is building Siri exclusively with in-house technology, while another is testing third-party models, including those from OpenAI and Anthropic.
The robots are expected to launch in 2026–2027, though, as often happens with Apple, timelines may shift. Considering the company's lag in the AI race and the disappointing sales of the Vision Pro headset, Cupertino can't afford to wait. Other Big Tech companies are surely eyeing the still-open home robotics market as well.
