Morpho butterflies use iridescent wings to scare predators

Morphos are one of the most iconic and loved butterflies. They’re native to Mexico, Central and South America, Paraguay and Trinidad.
Their blue iridescent wings (they’re blue due to small scales on their wings, which diffract the light) are a tool to scare away predators. They do this by flashing their wings rapidly.
